The spinning-mill in Forno

The imposing and suggestive buildings of the spinning-mill rise at 1 kilometre from Forno as an astonishing witness of the industrial archeology. The old factory lies in a wonderful scenery: the waterway springing from the source of the Frigido laps on the walls of the building, which is framed by the steep faces of the Apuan Alps.
The factory, which was built at the end of the past century, produced cotton yarn using the energy of the great source and it gave work to hundreds of persons, mostly women, who also had the benefit of a very advanced public relief for those days.
After a blooming productive activity, the nazis set the spinning-mill on fire in 1944.
It was restored in the nineteen-eighties and today is seat of the Visiting Centre of the Park of the Apuan Mountains (tel. 0585/315300) and provides a little but modern museum of the territory.
