The arch of the saver

This arch is an improper gate probably replacing an older one, which was unusually placed outside the walls, as it results from the 17th century iconography. It is situated in the west edge of the town route and its original function is not sure.
The architectural structure has a rustic style, which is characterised from strong jutting ashlars; over the centering of the arch is a chiselled marble coat of arms.
The top of the arch has a tick gable where is situated the statue of the saver, which can be ascribed to an important 17th century workshop of Carrara.
On either sides four slender pyramids stand out. The pyramids are in white marble, as the large memorial tablet, which recalls to the ornament of the door carried out in 1690 by Carlo II Cybo, probably with the introduction of the above mentioned marble elements.
